Ads, AT&T passcode reset, and podcast changes on Discord for Android users

Hello, and welcome back to Equity, a podcast about the business of startups, where we uncover the numbers and nuances behind the headlines. This is our Monday show, where we reflect on the weekend and look ahead to the week ahead. We’ll talk more about that on Wednesday, but it’s Y Combinator Demo Day week, so expect a flood of startup news.

Today on the podcast we saw the latest news from Discord that indicates it is moving towards opening its doors to ads. As I wrote in 2022, this is standard practice for tech companies growing big, even if we as consumers may not like it. (For example, look at YouTube’s ad load.)

We also got into this super-neat startup roundup related to trucking, TechCrunch’s latest cybersecurity scoop that’s big news for AT&T customers, and even changes coming to the Android podcasting ecosystem Which will bring YouTube Music to even greater prominence within Alphabet’s consumer empire. Press ‘Play’ and let’s have some fun!

Equity is TechCrunch’s flagship podcast and posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and you can subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, and All Artists.

You can also follow equities x And threads, on @EquityPod.
